SASKATOON, SK – On November 18, the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) unveiled their newly acquired Sikorsky S-76A twin-engine helicopter which will be used for maintenance training by the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer students at SIIT.
The $1.3 million helicopter, which was deemed no longer in flight, was given to SIIT by Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company. Several students, community members, dignitaries, and SIIT and Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company representatives arrived at the Saskatchewan Aviation Learning Centre to bear witness as they unveiled the beautiful white helicopter.
The Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) program gives students the opportunity to maintain, repair, and overhaul such aircrafts as the S-76A helicopter. These students are trained to ensure that Transport Canada’s safety and performance standards are met.
This acquisition will serve to enrich the hands-on and practical learning experience of the AME students at SIIT. •
